WiFi for Raspberry Pi2 from RCOMP. I spent most of my time buying new kit so did not notice much else (arrived at bit late 60 miles in 3.5 hours). |

Well, the stardot crowd had a good time, it seems. I don't know about the people in the other room. |

I think so, I guess the server part being made accessible without JavaScript... and passing on presumably lists of available networks etc. Quite a neat idea (I wish I'd thought of it!) I believe they hope to expand on it along the lines of UniPrint.

Not sure I see the point. In Aldi, they have WiFi access points (/repeaters) for ten quid. Plug in and go, and works with NetSurf. |

You have to point NetSurf to 192.168.0.1 (or whatever) and do it from within the provided web-app. But you do it once, then it 'just works'. I fail to see how a custom Wimp app is an improvement worth paying the premium for. |

Not sure I see the point. In Aldi, they have WiFi access points (/repeaters) for ten quid. Plug in and go, and works with NetSurf. The point is that most of these access points can't be configured from RISC OS, using Javascript that doesn't work in NetSurf. Some are really bad and can only be configured from Windows because they come with a custom setup program.
Do you have a web link or model number for this Aldi one? Is it small enough to be battery powered?

No link, but it is just a rebranded cheapo Chinese unit like this
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=china+wifi+repeater&tbm=shop
There are UK plug versions. Mine does not need JavaScript. I have opened it, and you could run it from your own DC supply.
The rcomp idea just seems expensive and messy. You need a Pi, case, WiFi dongle, power pack, and their SD card. Blimey! |

Richard, we sell the cheapo ones too. PiFi is more a case of "Something to do with your pre-existing pi". Most of us here have a pi in a draw that we bought to play with - PiFi gives it a use.
I wouldn't advocate buying all the pi parephenalia just for PiFi. However, the goal is to make PiFi into something more than just Wifi, as others have said. |

PiFi's an SD card (8Gb image, designed for writing via dd under linux) - not really suitable for !Store. More a mail order product, but on the plus side, it's svelt enough that it shouldn't incur duty into Aus/NZ (I forget which you're in, sorry!). |

"Did anything of note happen?"
Hi,
Well... I launched a game. It was my first time at a RISC OS show, during which I launched a new RISC OS Game "Overlord" on CD and which is now available from the !Store.
The game is a 2.5D/3D space shoot-em-up that features 47 minutes of original music including 7 in game themes. Multiple missions are included that can be selected from the start screen.
It runs in 800x600 at 60Hz and is compatible RISC OS 4 (on Virtual Acorn SA), RISC OS 5 running on Raspberry Pi 1 & 2, Beagleboard, Pandabord, Iyonix and ARM X6.
Its written in BBC Basic and the !RunImage is not compiled or protected. The license specifies that the code may be used as the basis of new games.
Kind Regards,
Tony
