XScale - the second generation StrongARM chip - has been in the news recently, with a story tracing its lineage back to Acorn, and another about its debut in Tokyo (thanks to Rupert Woolger for the links).

Not sure if this really constitutes RISC OS news, but ROX (RISC OS on X) has reached version 1.2.0 and got its second mention on Slashdot. This project brings a RISC OS-style filer interface to Linux machines.

Looking for a unique gift, or wanting a fun project to play with? APDL/ProAction software have whispered in eKits Online's shell-like and can now offer a make your own clock kit suitable for use under RISC OS. Tired of loading a web browser to view your RISC OS news? Well, you may not have noticed but certain websites - this one, Acorn Arcade, My RISC OS and RISCOS.org - are sporting RDF and RSS format data files. This is partly because I've been playing with Justin Fletcher's !RSS that My RISC OS posted about a while back. It's a bit of a desktop silly - it displays the news headlines in speech bubbles, and clicking on it to load the full article spawns a page in your web browser - but I like it! :)

According to dictionary.com the plural of 'box' is 'boxes', but 'boxen' is a 'fanciful plural' of 'box', in the context of 'Unix boxen' (like 'VAXen'). So there you go!!!

People who subscribe to the "generic geek" culture think they're being individualistic by pluralizing "box" to "boxen" (possibly inspired by someone who once thought it amusing to adopt old Saxon/Germanic language rules), but clearly they're just following the rest of their "geek-wannabe" herd.

In that case I will use the word "toadge". At the moment I'm using a Linux toadge, but I have a RISC OS toadge at home. I refuse to use a Windows toadge.

Well, it's one thing to use the standard plural of "boxes", but quite another to think you're cool and individual by using "boxen", even though about 10000 Slashdot contributors (most under 16 years of age) do exactly the same.

The next thing you'll be doing is misquoting references to lawyers from Shakespeare and banging on about "dumb marketing people" despite having no appropriate corporate experience to speak of.

"I'm an individual," you'll cry in chorus with thousands of others, while not sounding entirely convincing for obvious reasons.

It's just slang. If you don't like it, don't use it, but there's no reason to get so upset about other peoples usage of language.

I think we should all be 100% individual and use whatever words we want. As long as the meaning remains clear.

So myself possesses triplicate RISC OS containers, in conjunction with a mere duplication of Windows containers. Myself could assuredly usage a singularity excess of RISC OS containers - but myself eyeballs something in excess of present velocities and so on as a prerequisite.

SW show link does work.

Is a RISCOS container some ROM?
And by windows container, do you mean a CD, or the Harddisc?

Don't answer, I'm just pedantically pointing out the ambiguities when the strictures of language are messed with :P

Ok it may be me but I have checked on 2 computers now and their link to "RISCOS SOUTHWEST 2002" just gives me a 404 not found message.

mailed them yesterday about it but have no reply yet.

The link from TIB to the Acorn Shows site works, but the link from there on to the Southwest show doesn't. I don't get an error -- it just hangs.

Very interesting, I come home and have a look with a proper computer using Oregano and it all works.

So the moral is "maybe" do not use Linux/Netscape.
