DarkWood, of course.
This game was written by Tom Cooper, and released by Eclipse in 1995. It's a 3D walkabout RPG/action type affair, with some nice/garish looking sprite based characters - depending on your opinion of such things. Don't be too harsh though, because some of them were drawn by our man
rich, and
you won't like him when he's angry!
Talking of hacking stuff to pieces, that's exactly what you get to do in this game - and in true Hamsters style, you can even go after the cute little bunnies. Unfortunately we have only been able to get the game to run correctly on versions of RISC OS from 3 to 3.7, but it may work fine on 4 if you're lucky.
Update:A new version of DarkWood has been uploaded, this time with the music included. The documentation has also been updated to state that RISC OS 4 and 5 users can play the game via
!emulator (aka !A310emu).

Don't forget A310em. It's free and is becoming increasingly compatible on the Iyonix. |

Darkwood runs perfectly on an Iyonix with !A310emu and should be ok on the Risc PC aswell although a bit slower i would have thought.

I've just tried running DarkWood on A310Em natively on an Iyonix. It works! With the emulator in single tasking mode the game feels roughly the same speed as when I played it on my A3010. It's fine so long as you crank down the graphics settings - either with gerald shading but no depth, or a reasonable depth and flat colours. |

Seems to run fine on select here. What problems are to be expected? |

I tell a lie. It's actually much faster than my A3010. OK, so I've come back from the pub and my judgement may be clouded, but now I can play it with max depth and graphics and almost jump over the water in spite of the frame rate.
I'll have to invest in a second hand Risc PC to play it ploperly. :) |

Apparently it'll crash on RISC OS 4 if you try and fire when indoors. That's about all I know though, since I'm still using 3.7 :-( |

I can confirm that on my RO4.02 RPC the game indeed crashes when firing indoors. Besides, in multisync mode the upper part of the screen flickers and more in-game graphics are flickery/transparent...
Still, I love it! ;o) |

Does this crash occur under A310em? |

The above crash doesn't occur with A310em (running on RO5.05).
The multisync flicker problem might be alleviated by increasing the amount of screen memory allocated in the task manager before entering the game. |
