Have recently discovered an old BBC Micro (with floppy drive) along with a '5000' Synthesiser which I am looking to sell.

I have no way of testing any of it but it all appears to be in good condition - what would be a fair asking price? Either for everything or just the synth.

Thanks!

In addition I've also just discovered the book 'Making Music on the BBC Computer' by Ian Waugh, 1984

More 8-bit knowledgeable people there.

Grrrr. Can't post blank message!!!!

The easy answer is to say "It depends on what someone is prepared to pay for it".

Having said that, and owning a complete Hybrid Music System plus some spare bits and pieces, I'd have to say that the pricing depends on the part of the system, its condition and its rarity.

At the time of writing, in recent months, I've seen the following:

HMS 500 - see HMS 5000 (slightly more desirable if already modded with the Master series timing fix) and better boxed.

HMS 1000 - seen none - last time I saw one, I bought it on a BIN from ebay. This appears to be quite rare in the Hybrid world.

HMS 2000 - seen none - last time I saw one it was part of an almost complete system with a 3000 as well this is quite a rare item in the Hybrid world.

HMS 3000 - seen none - as per 2000 - but super rare item. I've only ever seen the one I own!

HMS 4000 - seen plenty - They go for between (GBP) 50 and (GBP) 150 on their own. Better if they have a foot pedal and manual etc.

HMS 5000 - seen plenty - These go for between (GBP) 80 and (GBP) 150 on their own. Better with a box and manual etc.

HMS 6000 - seen one - It went for approximately (GBP) 90 IIRC correctly. There are only four that I know of in existence, they're super rare with only 50-60 ever being made according to Chris Jordan when we talked about it.

For completeness:

Peartree Music 87 (a rebadged HMS 5000) same sort of price as the 5000 (probably a shade cheaper because it doesn't say Hybrid on it).

The Microvitec Touchtech touchscreen add-on was used with much of the special needs software for the HMS 6000. I've only ever seen a couple of these and only one was on ebay which I managed to pick up. I wouldn't pay more than around (GBP) 40 for one of these as they're not much use outside of the special needs software.

Overall, I'd work on a price between (GBP) 50 and (GBP) 150 per HMS item depending on working state, condition and rarity as I mentioned before.

If you end up with a bidding war where you've got one of the rare items then all bets are off I guess and the prices could go quite high I'd imagine.

HTH

Paul

So apparently any pound symbol in the text appears to cause the entire message to be wiped out!

Thanks Paul, that's really useful.

I'm not too concerned about profit so am happy to sell it for 80 pounds ONO - I'll make a post in the 'Free Ads' section, anybody interested can contact me through there.

I'll see if anyone on Stardot is interested too, are there any other online communities it would be worth posting on?

Many thanks
