NetStation Gaming update

Posted by Alasdair Bailey on 00:00, 2/11/1998 | , , , ,

NC Gaming takes a new twist!

PowerNet, a leading Acorn-loyal NC ISP are now offering a supercharged NetStation gaming pack comprising of a few well-known PC conversions from R-Comp, an IR keyboard and an Iomega Zip drive amongst other things. This news reinforces PowerNet's commitment to Acorn-developed hardware in the face of NetChannel announcing they intended to cease supplying the Acorn boxes.

Richard Barlow, ex-DarcMan and PowerNet games guru, tells me the packs retail at about £299.99 from PowerNet distributors. An upgrade for existing PowerNet NC customers is also available at the price of £99.99 which is very good value considering the fact that the Zip drive alone would probably set your average user back more than £100.

The pack includes:

  • NetStation
  • Upgrade to 16MB RAM
  • Updated ROM with Zip drive support
  • Iomega Zip Drive
  • Doom+
  • Abuse
  • Syndicate+
  • Infra Red Keyboard

The upgrade will also be available to subscribers to other NC ISPs provided they switch their account over to PowerNet's "OnTV" service. The OnTV service is said by some to be the best available anyway since not only are PowerNet loyal to Acorn hardware, they also offer word processing facilities and a daily news feed.

PowerNet have agreed to let Acorn Arcade borrow a setup for review so keep an eye on these pages! Call 0500 831 831 to talk to PowerNet if you would like any further information.
